I am starting a new series “So You Want to Write an eBook ?” to help design and write an ebook. First, we are going to start with structures and design components. After we are done with the requirements we will go in depth in every part of the process.
The components to be covered include (this list will be updated as required):
- HTML Template
- CSS style sheet file
- Cover design or ebook Title pages
- Copyright and author pages
- Table of contents
- Ebook contents
In addition to basic design of ebook, we will also cover the use of tools to produce ePub by using Sigil and Apple iBook by using iBook Publisher.
HTML stands for ‘hyper-text mark-up language’, a language used in almost all of the internet. Although a lot of different programing languages like PHP and ASP can be used to design webpage, the output is always in HTML format.
We start with a basic HTML e-book template file to start the book writing process. The HTML template contains a <HEAD> section and a <BODY> section. <HEAD> contains the details like ebook title, author’s name and the links to a style sheet that we will cover in next part. The <BODY> part is everything else of the ebook.
<title>Your eBook Title Goes Here</title>
<link rel=”stylesheet” type=”text/css” href=”style.css”>
<meta http-equiv=”Content-Type” content=”text/html;charset=utf-8″ >
