Q&A -No filenames in Thumbnail view – Windows explorer

Question  – In windows Explorer, when I switch to "thumbnail view" it only shows the thumbnails and no names. It is very difficult to rename the file names

Answer – I tried duplicating your problem and explain the solution with a few assumptions. I hope you are using Windows XP and it is like the following image. In which if you press F2 you can edit the filenames (the flag-of-nepal.jpg as seen in the image was shown when F2 was pressed) but, it is hidden otherwise.

It is easy to change the thumbnail view to show filename by following the following 2-step procedure:

1. Change the view to any other views – For example "Detail" view is shown in screenshot below:

2. Press "Shift" while you change the view to "Thumbnail". The result will look like below:
