Mac App Store goes live

Earlier today (Jan 6, 2011), Apple announced the opening of Mac App Store for business. With over 1,000 paid and free apps, the Mac App Store requires Mac OS X 10.6.6, available for download via Software Update.

Pages, Keynote, and Numbers – three components of Apple’s iWork productivity suite are now sold individually through the Mac App Store for $19.99 apiece. The total of the three pruducts, $59.97 is a discount when compared to the original $79.00 for iWork on physical media. Similarly, Aperture 3 in the Mac App Store costs only $79.99, a huge savings on the $199 price when purchased in store. Saving in the purchase of iLife ’11 in the Mac Store is however minimal.
