German state doesn’t like the Facebook Like

facebook-like-buttonSchleswig-Holstein, one of the German State has ordered all the sites of the state to remove Facebook’s "like" button. The sites that don’t comply with the order could be fined up to 50,000 euros.

When an analysis by the office of data protection commissioner showed that Facebook builds profiles of all those who click "like" button, whether they are Facebook users or not,  such data collection violates Germany’s data protection laws. Thilo Weicher, the data protection commissioner of Schleswig-Holstein, has given the deadline of September 30 to remove all "like" buttons from the websites operating in Schleswig-Holstein. 

Facebook has told that for non-users, the "like" button only collects the IP addresses and that information is deleted after 90 days.
