Apple wins patent war over Samsung, $1B for damages

Apple’s legal victory over Samsung on Friday, August 24, has won it $1.051 billion in damages. A U.S. jury found that Samsung had copied critical features Apple products iPhone and iPad. This victory can help Apple in increasing its dominance in mobile product market.

After the legal victory shares of Apple increased 2 percent to a record high of $675.


Samsung’s response : "It is unfortunate that patent law can be manipulated to give one company a monopoly over rectangles with rounded corners," it added, "Today’s verdict should not be viewed as a win for Apple, but as a loss for the American consumer."

It seems, Jurors awarded apple damages without specifying infringements.

Apple’s statemet: "The lawsuits between Apple and Samsung were about much more than patents or money. They were about values."

"We applaud the court for finding Samsung’s behavior willful and for sending a loud and clear message that stealing isn’t right."
