Apple risked the new iPhone design because Steve Jobs liked it very much

steve-jobs-iPhone-4Before the July 16 press meet to deal with the antenna problem of iPhone 4, the Wall Street Journal article, quoting a person familiar with the matter said that Apple is not planning to recall the phone.

Quoting another source, WSJ claim, Apple engineers knew of the risks associated with the new antenna design for, at least a year before the release. It was the Chief Executive, Steve Jobs who wanted to go ahead with the design because, he liked it very much.

To keep the device secret, Apple didn’t do the real-world testing of the ‘naked’ phones before its release. They sent out test phones enclosed in covers to disguise the real shapes and some of its functions.

It is to be noted that the prototype that gizmodo.com got hold of, was also enclosed in a case to give an impression that the device was an old iPhone. While testing devices on case the reception problem couldn’t be replicated as there won’t be any direct contact with the antenna.
